This gemstone invokes thoughts of the undulating ocean at midnight. Dumortierite gemstone beads resemble lapis and sodalite, but are much less expensive. This stone combines the gorgeous deep blues of lapis and sodalite with streaks of white and even a few flecks of pyrite. It was named for the French paleontologist Eugene Dumortier.
Dumortierite usually occurs in metamorphic rocks rich in aluminum. Dumortierite can be found on every continent.
